Well, now the door is down, but now I am in serious problems changing the pin. This ought to be an easy matter.

The hingehalf at the doorside is permanet, so the only way is to drive the pin out with the hinges attached to the door and on my door there is no chance to drive the pin out (without damaging something). Its really got stucked, and the angle to "attack" the pin is really bad.
Its almost impossible to drill the pin out with a ordinary drill.

Anyone done a change. Anyone for a good advise?

I am in the final stage of the restoration of my ’83 Bertone. I tore the car down and then took the body to the body shop.
When it came to change those pins, those guys met their match. They found that driving the pins out and boring the hinges in place was imposible, so they had to take the door out, with the hinge, but the bolts were stuck.
They tryed everything, from penetrant oil to impact wrenches. Finally they had to heat the hinge with a torch to loosen the bolts. A real PITA believe me. Of course the paint gets burnt in the process.
The only other way to get the job done that I can think of, when the threads are so badly bound, is to drill them
through and tap an oversize thread. Not an easy task either, since the bolts are pretty hard.

Oboy! Really a lot of work to change the pin. Pitty that they did that kind of construction for the door hinges, but...

I made it! Took the door from the body, and used a "flexibe line" that was attached to the drill machine. That allowed me to drill the pin from both sides. Then the rest of the pin was left in the hinge half thats attached to the A pillar.

Now I was able to take the hinge half to the jaw vice and drill the rest of the pin out.

But one must have a good portion of patience. It took me to evenings to make it work, but now the doors is back in place again, and there is a good feeling to "slam" a door, working good, when it before was hanging and not fully closed.

How is your restoration coming? Do you have any pics to send so I can see the wonder?

The drivetrain has just been reinstalled, next week I will do the final hookup and hopefully after that I'll be ready to crank the engine for the first time in eight month.
