Poll; sideview mirror for my X,please look

Karfrik

Albert
Hi guys, trying to decide which way to go with sideview mirros for my Faza/Abarth X1/9.Trying to give the car the proper 70`s vintage look of course, but one of the mirrors looks more contemporary than the other. Both mirrors are available thru Pegasus racing but can also be found on ebay.
So here is #1;seeing it in a couple of x`s,like our own Pete W racing X here in TX and just recently on an SCCA bodied "ice blue"(yeah Tony you heard it right)X19 at BFI.This is the more contemporary one even thou this mirrors have been available fr yrs;

and #2;a classic Vitaloni California;

Let me know what you guys think and if any other suggestions let me know....thanks!!!

While I like the Vitaloni, I think a round 'organic' shape works with a Spider better than the angular X... I therefore irrationally vote Spa F1!!! (I'm mean we're talking about personal taste right?)

The Vitaloni looks like it came of a Honda 600 sport bike.

The Vitaloni California would be more period correct, but I agree with mx5rush, the rounded shape is more at home on a curved body. IIRC these are the stock mirrors on some earlier Ferrari 308's?

Vitaloni also makes a couple of other period models that are more angular. No time to check the pegasus site, I remember seeing them on there. Post pictures with your final decision installed!

The first one...

The fist one goes better with the X lines in my opinion, but really either one would create the vintage look you're after. How often might they need to be replaced? The second set are cheaper.

Vote for #2

Looks nice and I have seen it or something similar on early X once and it didn't disturb the natual lines of the car at all.

Vitaloni flag mirrors

I bought these stockish Vitaloni flag mirrors for my 78. It had a drivers said silver flag, but it is pretty work. I wanted ds and ps mirrors, so I got this pair of EvilBay.

Ya wanna look AT THEM or IN THEM???

Bottom line... either might LOOK good, but NEITHER would really work!

Both mount too low... only a FLAG STYLE mirror that will mount on the SLAB SIDE of the car and the mounting is pushed UP higher than the sill will actually be of any use. That is why Bertone went to a thru-the-wind-wing design...

(Speaking of FLAG MIRRORS... look at these Flag Mirror COVERS! Kinda cool! - http://www.aliexpress.com/wholesale/wholesale-flag-mirror.html)

Period for the time... if that means so much to you... is one of these... ala NASCAR and now ala GOLF CART... and they are EXTREMELY effective...

I've used one for years and love them... ya see it all, especially in LA traffic.

As for side mirrors... I still use the flag style I got at Auto Zone and/or Pep Boys for about $35.00 a pair. Look like the classic SQUARE Vitalioni and are mounted in a matter that they are steady and up high enough over the sill. Also... the SQUARE mirrors give you a much better "picture" than the more stylish OVAL or ROUND mirrors...

Here is one I believe to be an exact copy of mine...

You need to be AWARE of the mounting... so that it will fit correctly on the SLAB side of your car... unlike this one:

Do you SEE the difference!!!

So it all comes down to again... ya wanna a poser or a driver? Ya wanna look AT them or IN them?

(I'll disregard the BLUE comment in this post... catch ya later on that! - HA!)

!

The Vitaloni Baby Turbo looks really close to my stock thru-the-window mirror. But experience with those hasn't been really favorable. They're cheaply made.

Maybe you should shop around in the salvage yard???

I put on the vitaloni californians a year ago.
Look great on the car!
Very period correct, it's amazing on how many seventies Italian cars you can see them.
They hold up very well, adjusted them only ones since installing.

Vote for the Kalifornee-ah

They just look good.

BTW, I put Vitaloni Sebring Mach 1 Mirror's on the race X. You cant see squat! I'm going to have to put a center dash mirror in...

As my 63 Avanti had a dash mount mirror I agree with you entirely. Plus they look wonderful so who cares if you can't see a darn thing!!!

They both look good but the F1s would be a little easier to see with.

Thanks, Tony (fixed), while checking out etrailer I ordered a trailer hitch ball.
