I am waiting for parts two gas struts , the old one's were stuffed I pushed them down and they stayed down no good !

oh ya before you ask yes I used high temp paint on the brakes !

Wow Phil, you've been busy!

Nice work indeed. Thanks for the many photos. You really do pay attention to details. I just so happen to be working on the same parts. Now, if I can find a way to make my stainless exhaust look that pretty... :headbang:

Nice phil

That's a lot of work!! You made me feel tired just looking at the pics. :)

What kind of paint did you use on the springs? I have set set of performance springs that I want to paint prior to installation, but I was worried the paint would crack off as the spring flexed on the car.

hi , jimd

yes I was thinking that as well , so I just put some "engine enamel" paint on ! ,the spray can says " tough finish that retains its colour and gloss , will not crack , lift or peel ! "
I will let you know how it go's !

Phil

Phil,

Where are you sourcing the rear struts from? ...and what are they?

Regards,

Brian

Bob,

Thanks for the suggestion, but shipping to our part of the world would be the equivalent of a moderately-priced X1/9.

Regards,

Brian

hi bmck , I tried to get them here , went down to a suspension w/shop
they said that they could get some for AU$320 a pair from melbourne
so I shopped around and got some from Matt ( Midwest x19 ) for half
the price , I know that there not brand new but his system says 8 out of 10 good enough for me ! , I got some inner boots as well from him
as mine were worn out they fit great !

I'm slowly finding vendors found so far -

Midwest x19 (Matt) (USA , Columbus , Ohio )
eurosport (uk)
Vick autosports (USA , fortworth , TX )
fiatorque continental spares ( Aussie , Granville , NSW )
APF motors (Aussie , Brisbane , Queensland )

I'm sure you guys can tell us more !

Phil

wow all my parts just came to my door from Matt ( Midwest x19 ) thanks Matt ( great ! now got to do some work bugger I'm on hols , wife says "your on that fiat again ! ! !" yes dear :))

Phil

wow on a run today more parts came! :) , brake pads , hub nuts , bushes for control arm - one arm was good but the other arm the bushes are stuffed , lucky for me we have a 20 ton press at work and a lathe so i can make something to press them out ! :p

Picture087.jpg

I put the gas strut into the strut tube , when I put it in I smear a bit of oil on it to stop it rusting inside !
now I'll paint it !

Picture088.jpg

Thanks for the pictorial, Phil...

I've personally been there like 100 times it seems... Consider painting the struts a machinery GREY as they will really POP against the red springs and black background of the wheel well.

Good work and all... keep it up!

hi black tooth , I'm painting them yellow ! , now all I need is some
glass wheel's so you can see my work ! :)

Phil

Nice work Phil,
You certainly don't muck around.
Did you find out where the oil was leaking from and replace any seals.
Regards
Peter

hi rizthewiz , yes I found all the bolts on the sump were loose !
re-tightened them up !

Phil

When installing strut tubes into strut housings, it used to be you filled it with oil for optimal heat transfer.

hi budgetzagato ,

yes I've heard of this , but be careful that you don't put to much oil in ! :)
