Replacing control arm rubber boot

I accidentally cut one if the rear control arm boots so I need to switch it. What kind of wire do I need to hold it in place? If I am careful can I reuse the stuff off a donor arm or does it lose it's form on removal?
Thanks for any advice!
Cheers,

Pictorial answer to my question

So I replaced the boot that a tore while removing one of the rear control arms. I used a boot from a donor arm (actually i used two because i tore the first one putting it on)

The boot fits over a lip on the bottom and is secured with a metal ring something like a keychain meets a piston ring:

It is quite springy metal, I used a seal puller and screwdriver to unwind it from the boot, it managed to tear the first one during thus process.

The shaft has a bushing on it that was pretty worn out, i picked the best one from the three i had and used it:

I saw this doc on how to refurb a balljoint using a 132 donor but i didn't see the bushing, hopefully it will be fine.

I then used a syringe to replace the grease:

I then finished my control arm refurb by replacing the bushings using my ghetto bushing replacement tool:
