The speedo cable comes up from under midcar and into the fron trunk where it goes thru the firewall and into the w/wipers bay. Right there it terminates in a sort of CONNECTOR (which, in turn connects to an intermediate cable and into the speedometer).
This connector is broken. A small section is swedged on to the cable sleeve, and that is were it's broken.
Anyone knows what can be done?
Please note that even if I replace the outer sleeve I don't believe it will go thru the firwall.

Go to a one piece cable using the same route from the tranny through the firewall and make a nice loop and go through it again for a strait shot at the Speedo. Although it was about a foot shorter than what stock was, that was fine, because I redirected the cable from under the car to inside thought the tunnel between the seats using the original sleeve. That alone made it longer than needed and protected the cable from exposure. Cut it down a little with the dremal for lenth.
If you have to slice the cable for any reason, make sure the cut is straight and that you clean out any sharp edges. Dremal comes in handy for this. When you put the two ends together lube it with grease, lithium spray, silicone or whatever. Make sure you place a sleeve over the slice to keep it from bending. You may have to use two small hose clamps, to keep it tight.

I have done this 3 times and have put thousands of miles on the first with no problems.
Total spent per car: Under $10.
Sure I could have spent $25+shipping per car for the factory replacement, but why?

For the savings and knowledge I'll alwys be able to get cables, I could not resist doing it this way. Also the set up pretty much stays out of the elements, which is the main reason most of my cables broke. If you want to try it, I'll go get the part number from the box. If you decide to go factory, go with the one piece cable.

You mentioned cutting the cable....doesn't the speedo cable have the typical soldered on square shaped end on the instrument end like it does on the transmission end ?
Are you talking cutting the NAPA cable, or the OEM cable sleeve ?

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->One end of the Napa cable is already shaped, but the side to the tranny has a silver piece to crimp on. For the savings and knowledge I'll alwys be able to get cables, I could not resist doing it this way. Also the set up pretty much stays out of the elements, which is the main reason most of my cables broke. If you want to try it, I'll go get the part number from the box. If you decide to go factory, go with the one piece cable.
