I finally got some time to wrench on the Betone. I had ordered a deep oil pressure switch from C. Obert and Co. and had some fun putting it in.
The original oil pressure gauge/warning light combo I was running was a clever idea borrowed from someone else, maybe Mark Plaia? The combo setup uses a Fiat 850 Spider pressure sender, a Fiat 850 brass water temp sender housing tapped for a VW warning light sender.

Here's the leak that ensued when the crush washers I used were too small!
The offending washers on the right, the good ones on the left:
Fitting the correct wider washers fixed the leak, and the nice idle oil pressure reading at the gauge:
