The War Between Useless and Useful

The oil industry and few others are...

short of certified welders to the tune of a few thousand at present.
After those positions are filled then what? The unemployment overall for the college educated is 4.4% and for those with only a high school degree 13.6%. So take your choice. Even now recent college graduates are at 10% unemployed with recent high school grads at over 20%. so, again, take your choice. The famous author 'Eric' (must be on the same exalted plain with Madonna and Oprah) is pretty cagey in listing all the 'useless' college degrees, but what about engineers, doctors, pilots, most military officers, bussiness managers, product engineers, sales forces in tech, medical equipment designers, etc....

Yeah, let's all become welders so that the cost of welding will go down to minimum wage. And, as I recall it was the white working class (mostly after, but certainly starting with Nixon's 'Southern Strategy') that abandoned the Democrats not the other way around.
If that group really thinks the GOP is their friend then by all means the GOP can do what they can for them. Although as I read the stats the WWC is far more Paulista than Republican, which shows at least that you don't need college to be pretty astute.
