Timing Distributor Drive

Where is the timing mark on the distributor drive pulley?

I pulled the belt and can see the other two timing marks but I haven't seen a mark for the distributor yet. The shop manual doesn't mention the distributor drive in the T-belt replacement instructions.

Thanks in advance.

Don't think there is one.

Most people remove the distributor cap and make sure the rotor points to the contact for cylinder 4 (assuming crank and cam pulleys are both at their TDC marks).

There is no mark on the Aux shaft pulley

The Aux shaft pulley has no timing marks. If you set your crank and cam timing marks prior to removing the belt, the Aux pulley should be set properly. As long as you did not move it after removing the belt. The manual page is "assuming" you successfully removed the belt with out moving any of the pulleys. :)

This manual page is probably close to what you are working from:
http://www.midwesternmedicalmachine.com/~damonfg/X_FSM/PDF_Files/X1-9_101-06_10-69.pdf

If you rotated/bumped the Aux pulley while working in the bay, you need to pull the dizzy cap and be sure that the rotor is pointing to plug contact #4 prior to putting the belt back on. Without the belt on you can simply tturn the Aux pully to align the rotor where you want it.

So you want to have the crank and cam timing marks lined up and the dizzy rotor pointing to #4. That is the starting point. From there you can try to start the car and do the final timing by twisting the dizzy.

BTW... all this is assuming you have a 1979+ non-interference 1500. If this is a 1300, you need to be more cautious and be certain your cam and crank are positioned correctly so the valves don't contact the pistons. That would be bad.

And if you already have the belt on

And the distributor is wrong because you moved the pulley putting on the belt....

If it's a little bit wrong, loosen the distributor hold-down bolt just as if you were setting the timing with a timing light, and rotate the distributor shell until it's right.

If it's way off, remove the hold-down completely, pull the distributor out, position the rotor properly, and reinstall the distributor.

There's no timing mark on the aux pulley because you can move the distributor even after the belt is on, so no need to get it right before the belt goes on.

Thanks for the feed back. The plan was not to turn anything but the distributor drive turns easy and the belt hit it as I pulled it out.
