Both of my X's have the speedo cable broken off inside of the input to the transmission.
To stuck and far in to pull the cable out with twezers.
I undid the allen bolt to see if I could pull the input out of the transmission to better work on it at the bench.
It resisted and I have no interest in destroying it if that is not how it comes out.
My new cable is in place and waiting to be threaded into the transmission. any ideas?

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Are you sure that part of the old cable is still in there? The part that sticks into the tranny is only about 1/2 long. If you are sure that it is stuck, try to "fish" it out with this method (tried and true from an 80 year old model-t [one of my other cars} mechanic): Bend a thin wire fish hook from the normal "J" shape into something close to straight. Position the barb of the hook parallel to the wall of the hole, and slide it down as best as you can without pushing the piece into the tranny (BE VERY CAREFUL!). Then simply turn the hook 90 degrees and it will snag the cable (which is really more of a spring anyway). Extraction from here should be simple.

Again, be careful! It's likely that the tranny can simply mash up a little bit of cable if it drops in, but it isn't a chance I would want to take.

Seriously, as disclaimer here... I haven't done this on an X, but have used this method on 2 of my own cars and for a few friends. The cable type is similar, so I am assuming that it will work.

Oh, and make sure that the car is cool when you do it. I got a nasty burn when I changed the speedo cable on mine.
