Torque spec for cam cover nuts?

Can't find the spec anywhere for the nuts on top of the cam cover. I know the cam cover bolts are 14 ft/lbs. Is the torque for the nuts the same? Seems a lot for those little studs on the cam cover...

Thanks,

Tight enough to seal is fine

Can't find the spec anywhere for the nuts on top of the cam cover.

The torque for those nuts isn't important, as we aren't talking about a large or variable load. Just tighten enough them enough that the cover seals properly and they don't vibrate loose.

For that size...

About 7 ft. lbs. is the spec. Even at that, you could strip an old nut or stud. Best to do it by hand and feel.

And, you'd have to consider that almost no "average mechanic/shadetree mechanic" torque wrenches have 7 ft-lbs with their spec range anyway. Some start at 10# and most start at 20#.

Good point.

I wouldn't trust even my own torque wrench at the extreme ends of its adjustment.

An inch-pound torque wrench would work. But, in the end you have to adjust your technique to what you're working on. A 25 year old M6 stud may not be up to "spec".
