My voltmeter reads about the halfway mark during daily driving with no accessories on but maybe the radio and running at 3000rpm or thereabouts. I know these electrical systems are a little fenicky, but should that needle drop to just above the red zone at night when the lights and the heater fan are on too? Was not sure if that much of a drop was "typical" or not. That also did NOT include running the cooling fans on the radiator (maybe that does not drain on the whole system the same way...it's still fairly cool here and I don't normally have to use those cooling fans at all) I just replaced the little fried black terminal block beside the fuse box a month ago, so I don't think that is the culprit...any ideas?

Thanks -
Scott<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->1: Be aware that your voltmeter is not the world's most accurate instrument. Mainly it is because the wiring where the meter taps into car power is sort of a convoluted mess. There is an easy fix for this. Pull the instrument cluster out and connect a nice fat jumper wire directly to the + pole in back of the meter, and run the other end direct to the ignition switch. Connect it to the wire that goes "hot" in the key's 'run' position. If you're really feeling frisky, add another jumper from the - pole to ground. I did this and immediately noticed the meter did not dip nearly as far or as easily when more accessories were in use.

2: Check your charging system. I can't recall what year your car is, but if it is a 1500, then it is easy to remove the voltage regulator (black rectangular thing) from the back of the alternator (2 screws) and pull it out to see if the brushes are shot. My car had a similar problem as you describe. I pulled the regulator out and `spproiing'! A worn out brush went shooting past my head. I put a new regulator in (around $20 I think) and the car charges like a champ now. Worth a look! -Mac.
