OK - here goes...I go to replace my intake/exhaust manifold gaskets yesterday. No problem...probably a couple hour job. No Way and now I am at a seemingly major problem. OK - start by removing everything from the intake manifold that I though should disconnect to move it around a little. So far so good. Manifold comes off with a little coolant leak, but no problem there (thanks again Ulix). pull the bolts for the exhaust manifold...a couple of studs came out, but I took them to the shop and we heated them up to get the rusted bolts off and put the studs back in (mistake no. 1). Go to slide the exhaust manifold back and DOH! it hits the alternator...ok, so here is where the fun starts - so I go to take off the alternator. I had to use so much force to move the top pivot bolt I thought it would rip at any second - finally got it off. Bottom bolt finally came part ways out with the use of a cheater bar on my craftsman 1/2" drive socket. IT WILL NOT COME OUT ANY FURTHER! plus, it appears to be bent, whioch is is why I had to use the cheater bar in the first place. So...now I can't get the alternator off to get the manifold clear to replace the gaskets to get the x running again. I need to get the belt off the alternator, or get the alternator off, or something so the manifold will clear the two middle intake manifold studs (longer ones) where I can fir the new gaskets. I am at a complete loss and about to call the classifieds! BTW, the big mistake above was, those two longer intae studs were the two that came off with the rusted on bolts...if i had just left them out then I could fit the new gastkets and VOILA, but no.......I had to be 'smart' and put the studs back in so locating them would not be a probelm later on!

Can you straigten it some by hammering on it? You could turn the bolt with a wrench to the right orientation first.
Then if that doesn't help much, get a long (about 3 ft) crowbar and a couple of 2x4s. Hook the end of the crowbar behind the bolt head and stack the 2x4s against the alternator or somthing so that you can lean the crowbar against the 2x4s and start levering. With a long enough crowbar, you should be able to get it out this way. Also spray some Liquid Wrench in the hole first.
Ask on the forum if someone has a new bolt for you, or go to a fastener specialist to get one.

1) Use stainless steel, and do still use anti sieze.
2) Use a slightly smaller bolt (sorry I don't remember the size) with a nut on it rather than the factory threading.
3) install the bolt in the opposite direction,,, with the bolt head on the "drivers side"... it will give you more "wiggle room" if you have to do it again.

I went ahead and started to remove the whole intake assembly yesterday to get more access to the exhaut manifold, and I Want to go ahead and replace the fuel lines from the fuel manifold to the injectors, etc. while I am in there. The old line is starting to dry out and crack a little. I need to replace the following...each injector's fuel line, the line from the steel line above the charcoal canister to the fuel rail, and the cold start valve line. What is the proper procedure for replacement? I understand from the manual that these are a press on type of conector, but is there a special way to remove the old lines? Do I use the same method for reattaching them or convert to a more standard hose clam method? Tahnks in advance - you guys are GREAT!!!!!

Hook the end of the crowbar behind the bolt head and stack the 2x4s against the alternator or somthing so that you can lean the crowbar against the 2x4s and start levering. With a long enough crowbar, you should be able to get it out this way. Also spray some Liquid Wrench in the hole first.
Ask on the forum if someone has a new bolt for you, or go to a fastener specialist to get one.

1) Use stainless steel, and do still use anti sieze.
2) Use a slightly smaller bolt (sorry I don't remember the size) with a nut on it rather than the factory threading.
3) install the bolt in the opposite direction,,, with the bolt head on the "drivers side"... it will give you more "wiggle room" if you have to do it again.

I went ahead and started to remove the whole intake assembly yesterday to get more access to the exhaut manifold, and I Want to go ahead and replace the fuel lines from the fuel manifold to the injectors, etc. while I am in there. The old line is starting to dry out and crack a little. I need to replace the following...each injector's fuel line, the line from the steel line above the charcoal canister to the fuel rail, and the cold start valve line. What is the proper procedure for replacement? I understand from the manual that these are a press on type of conector, but is there a special way to remove the old lines? Do I use the same method for reattaching them or convert to a more standard hose clam method? Tahnks in advance - you guys are GREAT!!!!!
