The car is running great, and I have no complaints, but do have a question. Is it normal to hear the valve train in operation? It isn't noisy, or a death rattle or anything, but it sure does sound like one of my old flathead motors.
I just thought it odd... not panicked or anything.

The reason I ask is that, with the FI cars, I have often had people ask about a clicking sound that turned out to be the sound of the injectors running. Click-click-click and as you know the injectors are right there next to the cam box, so sometimes I have heard of people mistaking this for the sound of the valves in motion...
I know you are a more experienced wrench, but just thought I'd mention it as a possibility? My valves don't make any noticable noise when the engine is running, but I can hear the injectors at idle. Just an idea?? -Mac.

) but I would venture to guess that, if it really is the injectors you are hearing, and each click sounds the same as the others (meaning one is not louder or quieter or different than the rest etc) that there is probably no problem.
Next time you have the chance, idle the car & stick your head in the engine compartment - see if you can locate the exact source of the clicking. If you stand directly behind the car & lean in over the engine, and listen carefully, you should be able to hear each injector firing individually.
If it turns out that it really is the valves making the noises, it would seem to me to sound more like a mechanical 'clack' than the 'pszclick' of each injector...

So listen to it at idle, and at higher RPMs, and see if the noise increases. Valve clearances would be easy to check, tho.
