That is very true Pete.

Exxe built after the mid-80's were as rust proofed as any high quality car from Europe.

The real rust problem cars are the early 1300 cars which also shared the same rust problems as other cars from Europe.

This has been discussed at beyond over time here.

Like the belief that Pennsylvania Grade Crude Oil makes the best engine oil, it might take 75 years for the rusty Fiat myth to die. And, the X1/9 was never really a Fiat, the bodies were built by Bertone since day one..

They have been on the road up to a dozen years less than earlier cars, and by the eighties, the dealers had caught on to the "Fiat=Rust" panic mentally of the general public, and had started rustproofing the hell out of them. My 87 has lived in the Pacific NW and in the high mountains of Colorado (as well as a short stint in Hawaii I think) and there is not a spot of rust on it. Same for my 86, which has lived in N TX all its life.
