There is a vendor in Indiana called Performance Fiberglass that makes a fair number of lightweight panels for the X1/9.
I am also aware of some fiberglass panels (nosecones, spoilers etc) being available overseas in the UK.
Then there is also "word on the street" about a shop in Toronto that is making carbon fiber panels!

I would even make carbon pannels myself of I could afford the material. You woulden't believe what a roll of prepreg costs. This is why 'bought' pannels are not usualy in my price window.(saving to buy a house)
I can find aluminium offcuts for quite a reasonable rate so this was the basis for the engine cover.
The other pannels are FRP as lb/$ it is hard to beat. My only reservation is on the doors, as, with me on one side, and my wife(who I believe to be most fantastic) on the other side, crash worthyness is a consideration. I know, how volvo of me, but oh well. The other option for the doors is a 'glass skin, with inner doorbars in aluninium and polyetheline foam in between. We'll see.

I've included a shot of my friend's car, VERY serious machine, and very light, somewhere around 1450 lbs with lots of real race car gear on board including a tranny cooler, dry sump, front tubular chassis etc.
The carbon fibre doors weigh 3 lbs each, the hood is approx 8lbs, we also have a rear fibreglass valance (not very strong however) but 4lbs and molded to appear as the original early '74 X1/9 with no lights and exhaust cutout.
The same guy who made the carbon fibre for this car has an X1/9 that weighs somewhere around 1200 lbs with roll cage, the bare minimum only applies here. But that is not all. He is an aerodynamic engineer by trade, originally working for Bombardier Aircraft (DeHaviland I believe, Dash 8) designing wings. He now designs race car shells!!! So aerodynamics can be GREATLY improved on the X1/9, just with the front splitter alone and a flat carbon fibre bottom.
Mind you, the cost of carbon in this low of quanitity is quite expensive. I would like to at least mold some doors, mine are stock without interior panels, but have glass for now. Too heavy!!
We are allowed to run modified, or replaced doors as long as they appear to look the same.
Also, check out the hood of the car I sent pictures of, the rad exits above the hood, better downforce, in fact it has too much downforce and they made this adjustable!!

Does anyone know what an x weighs? how about with bumpers,ac and all other crap removed? the rad and fans seem to be quite heavy so they might be replaced. I'm also looking at brake options. any interesting ideas?

The difference is noticiable even just by feel in driving the car down the street - That is a lot of heavy crap, man!

There is a vendor in Indiana called Performance Fiberglass that makes a fair number of lightweight panels for the X1/9.
I am also aware of some fiberglass panels (nosecones, spoilers etc) being available overseas in the UK.
Then there is also "word on the street" about a shop in Toronto that is making carbon fiber panels!

I would even make carbon pannels myself of I could afford the material. You woulden't believe what a roll of prepreg costs. This is why 'bought' pannels are not usualy in my price window.(saving to buy a house)
I can find aluminium offcuts for quite a reasonable rate so this was the basis for the engine cover.
The other pannels are FRP as lb/$ it is hard to beat. My only reservation is on the doors, as, with me on one side, and my wife(who I believe to be most fantastic) on the other side, crash worthyness is a consideration. I know, how volvo of me, but oh well. The other option for the doors is a 'glass skin, with inner doorbars in aluninium and polyetheline foam in between. We'll see.

I've included a shot of my friend's car, VERY serious machine, and very light, somewhere around 1450 lbs with lots of real race car gear on board including a tranny cooler, dry sump, front tubular chassis etc.
The carbon fibre doors weigh 3 lbs each, the hood is approx 8lbs, we also have a rear fibreglass valance (not very strong however) but 4lbs and molded to appear as the original early '74 X1/9 with no lights and exhaust cutout.
The same guy who made the carbon fibre for this car has an X1/9 that weighs somewhere around 1200 lbs with roll cage, the bare minimum only applies here. But that is not all. He is an aerodynamic engineer by trade, originally working for Bombardier Aircraft (DeHaviland I believe, Dash 8) designing wings. He now designs race car shells!!! So aerodynamics can be GREATLY improved on the X1/9, just with the front splitter alone and a flat carbon fibre bottom.
Mind you, the cost of carbon in this low of quanitity is quite expensive. I would like to at least mold some doors, mine are stock without interior panels, but have glass for now. Too heavy!!
We are allowed to run modified, or replaced doors as long as they appear to look the same.
Also, check out the hood of the car I sent pictures of, the rad exits above the hood, better downforce, in fact it has too much downforce and they made this adjustable!!
