Welding transaxle lever ball joints ?

I was perusing the Lancimontecarlo.net site for tech tips and found the snippet below. Does anyone know what and where the "transaxle lever ball joints" are and what is meant by welding them. The last issue that I have with my Montecarlo is that when shifting quickly down from 3rd I invariably have trouble finding 2nd gear. I'm hoping that the hint about welding might help.

The ball half of the shift linkages ball and socket joints are press fit into their linkage and sometimes comes loose. Tack welding them from the back side will remedy the problem.
