I don't think the X is going to appreciate nearly as quickly because it lacks universal appeal. While many do realize it's a beautiful and unique car, many others think it's horribly ugly, and the vast majority thinks it's interesting, but they'd much rather have a round sculpted looking car. Also, ragtops are more desired. Hence the higher prices for Spiders than X1/9's, even though the Spider is much less fun to drive and far more commmon, IMHO (currently own one '69 spider, women love it but I am selling it soon as it's done).
The people who are driving the X for driving excitement seem to be more realistic about what a car is worth, and once you start getting into multi-thousand dollar X's, the price range becomes competitive with more comfortable, reliable, faster cars (although arguably less fun to drive in the twisties). So if you're not of the opinion that the X is beautiful and/or the most fun in the twisties, it doesn't make sense to have an expensive X.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

I look at most cars today, especially Japanese, and they are so vanilla. Sure, there reliable as hell and will run forever but get inside one and you feel sterile.
Most people's first comment on the X is "oh, that's so small". And then I hear a round of "I could drive my (whatever SUV) right over your car and not feel a thing. You have to love America where someone's idea of "driving" is a SUV. Have Americans lost all pleasure in the shear fun of DRIVING a car and not taking their living room with them on the road? Also why can't people wait until they get home to have a conversation on the phone? I've had a cell phone for three years now and never come close to using all my minutes (45) every month. Remember when we would actually make a call from home and not endanger everyone on the road while we talk on the phone barreling down the road in our Ford Expedition?

Hence the higher prices for Spiders than X1/9's, even though the Spider is much less fun to drive and far more commmon, IMHO (currently own one '69 spider, women love it but I am selling it soon as it's done).
The people who are driving the X for driving excitement seem to be more realistic about what a car is worth, and once you start getting into multi-thousand dollar X's, the price range becomes competitive with more comfortable, reliable, faster cars (although arguably less fun to drive in the twisties). So if you're not of the opinion that the X is beautiful and/or the most fun in the twisties, it doesn't make sense to have an expensive X.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

It's a nice little sports car (driving it motivated me to revisit X ownership), fun to drive. It's faster (for the time being, at least), but it just doesn't match the fun quotient of my '86 X. I look at most cars today, especially Japanese, and they are so vanilla. Sure, there reliable as hell and will run forever but get inside one and you feel sterile.
Most people's first comment on the X is "oh, that's so small". And then I hear a round of "I could drive my (whatever SUV) right over your car and not feel a thing. You have to love America where someone's idea of "driving" is a SUV. Have Americans lost all pleasure in the shear fun of DRIVING a car and not taking their living room with them on the road? Also why can't people wait until they get home to have a conversation on the phone? I've had a cell phone for three years now and never come close to using all my minutes (45) every month. Remember when we would actually make a call from home and not endanger everyone on the road while we talk on the phone barreling down the road in our Ford Expedition?
