What RPM do most people run at 75 mph

I suspect my tach to be off on the upper end, seems correct at idle. What do some of you see at 75 mph in 5th gear. I have an 89X. Seems like I can't get the tach to go much above 4500 rpm yet the motor seems to rev much higher. Any one else seen this before?
 
With my '86 I see a little under 4000 rpm at 65 mph and 4500 at 75 mph sounds about right...

Tires are 185/60/13...
 
You should see about 4000-4100 * 75mph

What happens if you drop to 4th and maintain the same speed? You should see close to 5000 RPM.

Sounds like your tach is a little doggy, too...

5500 RPM in 5th gear should be about 100 mph
However 5500 in 4th should show about 85 mph

Been a few weeks....could have actually been 100....It was a long stretch of road with no cops or other drivers at the time. :)
 
I also have 185/60/13 tires on my 1979.
My speedometer is in kmh where 1 mph = 1.6kmh
I got 185kmh/116mph at 5800rpm
So 1mph = 50rpm roughly in 5th gear, 75mph would be around 3750rpm I guess.

Isn't your oil pressure a bit low, for turning 6000rpms? :shock:

Sounds like the tach is sticking/stuck. Seen this happen before.
