wheels....again

Off the top o' my head Monty...

Alfas have 4 x 108 bolt patterns, Fiat has 4 x 98.

You need to KNOW more of what you NEED and WHAT and that includes the wheel's offset and backspacing, along with the tire's overall height, and width. Not just the wheel's diameter.

Do write the seller and ask...

I agree with Tony. Contact the seller and ask for the measurement on the bolt circle.

I think it was the early Alfettas maybe? Not 100% sure which model, but there were Alfas with 4x98 at one point in time. I have been down that road a few times chasing wheels.

Alfettas...

....At least some of them were 4X98. That is where the 14 inch Daytonas came from.

Measure...

...across bolt circle holes.
One edge to same edge of opposite hole.
Easier to do on hub side.

But I'll save you the effort by saying Alfa Spider wheels are 108mm bolt circle.
The only alfa wheels with 98mm bolt circle are from Alfetta.
Note: Alfetta stock backspace appears to be too much
for Fiat.
But then, stock Alfetta wheels aren't the attraction.
Finding an Alfetta with aftermarket Daytona Cromadoras
or BWA SportStars is holy grail of wheel finds.

Speaking of holy grail wheel finds, here's a good story.
My buddy recently spied a Fiat Spider with Daytonas on a used car lot.
Being a crafty sort, he kindly pointed out to the dealer
those were wrong wheels for the Spider.
But my buddy, being a generous type of person,
offered to swap his Iron Cross wheels for the Daytonas.
Even threw in some coin to make it attractive for the dealer.
I had tried to work same deal with previous owner of the same Spider.
Considered purchasing Spider to hijack wheels, then flip the car,
but didn't have time/space to mess with it.

Another wheel find story...
Many years ago, I saw a sweet young thing driving an X1/9.
Idly curious and on a summertime random cruise, I followed her.
Nothing purient in mind, simply a way I chase classic cars.
(Also have 3 old ladies with '60s era classics on my radar).
Anyway, as I passed by where the driven X was parked,
I noticed another X parked in tall weeds and obscured by a boat.
Nothing special appeared, until I drove past and looked in rearview mirror.
Barely visible was what looked like it mighta been a Daytona.
Heart beating, I circled around for better look.
In fact, it was a single Daytona on a derelict X.
Not wanting to stop while wearing slacks/dress shirt
and driving Twin Turbo ZX, I went home & changed to grubbies
and grabbed my X1/9.
Knocked on the door to inquire about the Daytona wheel.
Turns out, the girl's dad had a set of Daytonas, and a set of CD30s!
They soon became mine...

Point of stories (besides for amusement) is that
wheels are where you find 'em if you turn over enough rocks.

Methinks Mike..............!!

.......Point of stories (besides for amusement)......

....that some day soon you should consider writing a book, sorta titled - "My best 10,000 experiences of being a Fiat x1/9 owner" .

Probly sell a copy or three, mate!! :king:

cheers, Ian - NZ

Sorry Ian...

...only have 1000 stories about being an X1/9 owner.
Not enough for a book.

However, if 128 stories were added, might be enough.
Recent favorite questions....
"Iss zat ah Bay-Ahm-WUBBLE-you?"
"Ditch chew buy dat from Ukraine?"
"I haff four Ladas just like yours."
I had no idea there are so many Russian immigrants in my area.
At least a couple of queries each week
from young guys with thick accents.
Most of 'em driving Mercedes!

And just last night from a teenage American kid...
"Is that a Datsun?"
When I said it's a Fiat, his look of disappointment
almost brought tears to my eyes.
So, I thought I might enlighten the young fella
about mechanical sophistication of the Fiat 128.
His eyeballs glazed over.
I seem to have that effect on people.

So, I thank you Ian for your kind words.

Alfetta wheels

Alfettas are NOT front wheel drive. In fact they are rear transaxle cars with a "De Dion" set up. Pretty exotic actually. I have found Alfetta wheels have what I call the same centerline. IE if they are 1" wider than your stock FIAT they add a 1/2" width to both inner and out dimensions. At least on my 850 it is that relationship.

Lancia Betas are the FWD cars you may be thinking of with the different offset but proper 4x98 bolt pattern.

Hey Mike, then here's a tip..........!!

...I had no idea there are so many Russian immigrants in my area....
....Most of 'em driving Mercedes
!

..........on how to clean a few roubles outa their Ruski pockets!
Tell 'em that one of Vlad Putkin's FAVOURITE personal cars is a .........LADA!!! Yeah, a Russian FIAT!!
Jeez mate, they will wanta clean out every X1/9, 128, + scrap parts from your back yard and garage - just to run around in a car like "da Boss" does!!
You'll make a killin', mate! And then YOU will be "da Man" driving around in a Merc!! :king:

Hey, my "professional investment advice" don't come cheap tho! :pimp:

cheers, Ian - NZ

Funny you'd mention that Ian...

...in fact, several Rooskies have inquired about buying my 128 Sedan.

I think there is also a great market for 128s amongst the bohemian set.
Went to open air concert this weekend.
Big crowd of bohemian/earth muffin types.
They went nuts over the 128 Sedan.

When X1/9s were my daily driver,
they sparked frequent interest from folks
who remembered when they were new.
The 128 Sedan draws astoundingly more interest
than the Xs.
The retrobox thing is happening.
If'n I were into this for mere money,
that would be the way to make a few schekels.
