So... I've been thinking about the inevitable conversion to a 4x100 bolt pattern to open up the world of aftermarket wheels with larger diameters.

Redrill would be the cleanest option, but alot of work individually. Since it appears many of us are going to be pushed into the changeover eventually, wouldn't there be a market for Vicks/IAP/etc to offer adapters? Seems like it they shouldn't be that expensive produced in some quantity. Are there enough of us to make it worthwhile? What about demand from owners of other Fiats? Anyone else stuck with a 4x98 pattern besides Fiat? If the market isn't big enough, is it something that would be worthwhile for a group to arrange a deal with a reputable machine shop to make several sets?

Also, has anyone already done the research on what aftermarket wheel size/offset is best for the X1/9 with adapter and current crop of performance tires (which are beginning to resemble rubberbands)? Wouldn't availablility of a common wheel offset drive the thickness of the adapter (keeping safety in mind of course)?<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

have you looked at the availability of low profile 14" tires that approximate the OD of the stock tires? I have no idea, but maybe it is not much better...

Since most modern wheels are FWD offset, you adapter idea would make sense, but what I would prefer is for one of the vendors to start importing wheels from Europe in 4x98 and 14" diameter.

The following link shows a wheel that looks great on the X. The page shows the available rims and matching tires.
If Matthias reads this, maybe he could tell us how much these wheels cost.

You'd have to have super fat spacers to even get the wheel on an X1/9, else the rim will smack the strut long before you could get a bolt in it

The front hub for the X1/9 is just a 128 hub with a plug where the CV joint goes. I've never had a problem, bu I've always used older rims.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

It could still be done I guess, but it seems like you'd need rather long lug studs or bolts, and several spacers ... ? -Mac.
