He told me that the FIAT rad was good because the rows were large diameter and that the 2 row standard was equivalent to some of the Jap 4 rows. I can certainly say that the re-cored radiator has made a BIG difference to my previously cranky temperature guage!

Be warned that a recore uses your old frame so it will still say "IPRA" even if the core isn't!
The radiator guy used a 3 row core which has an offset row in the middle of the other 2. As you say - very difficult so see through. I paid an extra $50 for that and I was told it was CERTAINLY worth the extra cost.
Both have metal shrouded fans.

The radiator in the car, with the corrugated look, has no brand name. It's thicker than the spare, but has only 23 water passages across it. If I look through it I can recognizse things.
The spare is marked "IPRA". It's about 2/3 the thickness of the other, and has straight fins. There are many more water passages, plus it appears there are a seperate set across the backside that are offset from the front. The fins are so close I can hardly see through the thing.
I have no idea where either of these radiators originally came from. I got the spare with a plastic-shrouded tilted fan attached. The one from the car has a flat-mounted metal shrouded fan.
I'm tempted to go with the spare with its ton of passages/fins, but I'm not sure if it might be a 1300 design that was abandoned going to the 1500.

The radiator shop said the copper/brass one will dissipate heat much better (and it's in better shape). Not much chance to see if it runs cooler yet or not, maybe this weekend. I also swapped the fan shroud with the angled plastic one. He told me that the FIAT rad was good because the rows were large diameter and that the 2 row standard was equivalent to some of the Jap 4 rows. I can certainly say that the re-cored radiator has made a BIG difference to my previously cranky temperature guage!

I'm really trying to decide which to take to the radiator shop. Maybe I should take them both and leave it up to the experts.... Not a bad idea actually...

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->I have 2 1988 1500 EFI Bertones. Both had 2 rows (see clearly through). Straight fins (not corrugated)IPRA stamped on the frame.
Be warned that a recore uses your old frame so it will still say "IPRA" even if the core isn't!
The radiator guy used a 3 row core which has an offset row in the middle of the other 2. As you say - very difficult so see through. I paid an extra $50 for that and I was told it was CERTAINLY worth the extra cost.
Both have metal shrouded fans.

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->I just removed the radiator from the car (it's an '81 FI 1500). I doubt it's original, something tells me the spoiler/grille/radiator/crossmember might have been destroyed and replaced at some point.
The radiator in the car, with the corrugated look, has no brand name. It's thicker than the spare, but has only 23 water passages across it. If I look through it I can recognizse things.
The spare is marked "IPRA". It's about 2/3 the thickness of the other, and has straight fins. There are many more water passages, plus it appears there are a seperate set across the backside that are offset from the front. The fins are so close I can hardly see through the thing.
I have no idea where either of these radiators originally came from. I got the spare with a plastic-shrouded tilted fan attached. The one from the car has a flat-mounted metal shrouded fan.
I'm tempted to go with the spare with its ton of passages/fins, but I'm not sure if it might be a 1300 design that was abandoned going to the 1500.

The radiator shop said the copper/brass one will dissipate heat much better (and it's in better shape). Not much chance to see if it runs cooler yet or not, maybe this weekend. I also swapped the fan shroud with the angled plastic one. The angled plastic shroud does appear to generate a bit less forward flow through the non-fan side at standstill than the flat metal one did.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
