I took off the inside door panel to find that the rod (that connects the key part of the lock to the part that actually locks it) is missing. It must have broken off on PO. Do I have to replace just the rod or the whole mechanism? I can't find "lock rod" or whatever it's called in the IAP parts catalogue.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->You may only need to replace the rod. Look at the little 'cam' that turns when you turn the key. This little cam is the part that physically pushes on the lever that opens the latch. It should have a little ball on it that the rod snaps on to. It is VERY common for this ball to break off, thus detaching the rod from the cam and making the key lock inoperable.
The good news is that the cam is available through Obert, and I can send you a rod for the price of shipping.

I'v probably got one, BUT, inspect the the part comming off the door handle assy and see if the little knob that the link attaches to is still there and not broken off. If it is broken you can not swap in the right side as there is a left and right and the whole assy must be removed to repair. If it is just the link missing take the one off the pass side(after being sure it isn't lodged somewhere in the bottom of the door). What ever you do be carefull of that knob on the lock- it breaks very easly and lub EVEYRTHING when you put it back togather.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->
