WTB DZUS quarter turn fasteners

htfx19

Herzel Frenkel
The headlights' well cover is held down by 2 quarter turn fasteners.
I am missing all four of them and their bottom pieces as well.

Dzus Fasteners are apparently not sold directly...

from the factory, rightfully protecting their distributors.

Here is a link to a company that appears to have all sorts...

http://www.southco.com/en-us/product/hierarchy.html?hid=7345

Secondly... I see there are several types but I do not see ANY that resemble the STOCK "knurled, thumbscrew, bolt-type fasteners" that came on our cars. Ours are much bigger and robust as compared to the MANY that simply hold on aluminum panels, even though they really don't NEED to be...

Found another manufacturer... Alcoa... they call theirs Cam Lock fasteners...

https://www.alcoa.com/global/en/products/product.asp?prod_id=530

Thirdly... you SHOULD still have the same Dzus bolts that hold the fuse box up. If so, I would insure they work for the headlight covers as well, then measure them, and then write or call this company to see what they can do for you.

Fourth... it may be a bit easier to just order a few sets that come close and install them if they don't have the originals. Less expensive as well.

Lastly, take fotos... and if I must, I'll be happy to pull one of mine and mic it for ya... Hope all is well!

fasteners

how many do you need of each?
I also have the early style of fasteners off the first few years that have two "mouse ears" instead of the knurled type.

Mike... Good to know you have the 1/4 turn BOLTS...

But Herzel states he need the "receptacles" too...

Do you have those as well or know of a source? I'm unable to find any that large at Dzus or Alcoa. I did NOT check McMaster-Carr though...

OK... so I did... not very much selection. I fear he'll need to purchase some new SETS from Dzus and that would probably be best. Rivet in some new receptacles and he's be good to go.

Quick-Access Captive Panel Screws

A quarter-turn locks and releases access panels, doors, and covers. Screws are held to the outer panel by retainers and fasten to a nut installed on the inner panel. A tool (sold separately) is required to install retainers for zinc-plated steel screws. Retainers are Type 304 stainless steel. Plastic fasteners are black; temperature range is –40 to 194° F.

1) Choose a nut that fits your inner panel thickness.

Clip-on nuts let you mount a screw near the edge of a panel.
Rivet-in nuts are useful when the back of the inner panel is accessible and your screw doesn't need to be near an edge. Rivets not included; install with 3/32" rivets in steel and 1/8" rivets in plastic.
Press-in nuts install in metal panels with an arbor press or similar tool. Choose back press-in style when the back of the inner panel is accessible and front press-in style when it's not.

2) Calculate installation thickness using the formula for your nut.
For Clip-On Nuts:
(If space between panels is 0.025" or less) Outer Panel Thickness + Inner Panel Thickness + 0.055"
(If space between panels is 0.026" or more) Outer Panel Thickness + Inner Panel Thickness + 0.030"
For Rivet-In Nuts: Outer Panel Thickness + Inner Panel Thickness + Space Between Panels
For Back Press-In Nuts: Outer Panel Thickness + 0.051" + Space Between Panels
For Front Press-In Nuts: Outer Panel Thickness + Space Between Panels

3) Choose a screw that works with your installation thickness calculation.
