I haven't seen one in over a year when I bought mine. A local car lot has one and is beautiful. It's a 78 and the PO must have spent all of his time polishing it. Only trouble is he never did anything underneath. A close inspection of it's bottom side revealed terminal corrosion. When he said $1900 I almost sh_t. I need a parts car so I offered him $500. He may come around when he cant sell it. Question: Is that to much? It runs and drives OK But it is bad underneath. Even the front spoiler is rusted away. JP<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Well, if the guy has a conscience, and he knows it's rusted out (I'm presuming that it's not structurally sound), he won't sell it to anyone for $1900. However, I think people are scum generally. No offense or anything personal if the seller is on here-just speaking from past expierience with other car sellers.
If you need parts, it's probably worth it. If nothing else, I'm sure you could sell body panels, engine, tranny, interior etc. parts to recover $500 if you're willing to put a little time in stripping it. However, you may want to add up how much it'd cost you to just buy the parts you want individually, and weigh it against the likelihood of procrastination and having a semi-stripped car around your house for a while.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->It is structurally unsound Mike and I really want that dash that's in there. It's in perfect shape and I wouldn't mind having an extra engine and tranny lying around just in case. If he sells it to someone for a driver you can bet he will hear from them later. I'll just wait and see what happens. I hate to see any X parts going to waste. I'm sure I wouldn't have any trouble selling the rest of the parts. Storage is the big problem. [FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Go for it, if nothing else, it's an adventure! I presume you mean Iron cross wheels? Want a story? Read on:
I bought my first X for $100, running like a top, but with half its coolant coming out the bottom every hundred miles, no chance of passing emissions, and a frame so rusty I could stick my finger through almost any point in the car-I fixed the coolant for $40 of pipe/rubber from Eagle/Schucks, registered out of county at my father's old cabin, and beat that thing to hell. I got driver sided by a Civic, and upgraded(!?!?!?)/bought a spider for $400, with a rebuilt engine and other stuff.
Later in a hunt for parts (tranny!), I looked at a non-running spider with extensive rear end damage, rust to hell, a screwed (water damaged!) interior and a hard top that needed a good cleanup-For $400. Needless to say, I offered the guy $200 thinking he'd be glad to get it out of his from yard. That guy told me that he'd been offered $250 and didn't take it, that he thought I was trying to rip him off, and that he was nice enough to not hold it against me. WHAT A CHAMP!
Basically, I guess the moral of the story is that worth is in the eye of the seller, and that any buyer who can't capitalize on this fact should be-WARE. If you want to be less nice, just park a sign across the street from him saying "look underneath at the rusted out frame!" etc. and wait until this guy comes to his senses.
To get an idea of the car's worth, if you're willing to put the time into stripping it, look (using the search function?-does it work in parts also?-TIP BELOW IF NOT) for parts ads on this wonderful wonderful forum (THANKS MAC!!!!), as well as completed auctions on ebay, and also maybe classifieds2000 etc. Just make sure to keep everything in perpspective, to not get caught up, and to try to convince the seller of the real worth of his car.
In case you're interested, my $400 Spider has now run me 200 hours of my own time, $1800, and might be approaching $2000 in sellable value. HA!

Tip if the search function doesn't work:
Google.com can let you limit searches to a certain website. They may be a few days out of date, but the search function overall should work. Just type the key words you want, and site:network54.com in the end of the search fill-in, and that may work also.
To make it clear, put:
site:network54.com
at the end of your search (anything more can screw it up, from past expierience). Maybe add fs&w also... Hope this helps.<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

[FONT=Trebuchet MS, Verdana, Tahoma, Arial]<!-- google_ad_section_start -->Last year, Kyle and I were out having our own little 2 car carvan and stopped to see a white X that was slowly being reclaimed by the earth.

Seized motor, tons of rust, floorboards gone, so wet that there was MOSS GROWING OUT OF THE BODY SEAMS!!!!

The owner came out to chat with us... he wanted $1000 for the car and wouldn't budge.

The conversation went something like this:

Me: Well, I'd be willing to take it off your lawn for you, but it isn't worth much.

Him: What are you talking about - this is a great car - the $1000 is firm... it's only got 12,000 miles, and yours has 100,000

Me: Yeah, but mine runs and sinking into the lawn!

laugh Some people!
