4age silver top conversion

looking good!!

when I did the 2.2 turbo, the reversing of the linkages caught me for a bit. but totally made sense once I did it.

keep up the progress!

2.2 turbo? sounds good are there any pics on here? I would really like to see that one. What motor is it?

2.2

I do believe there are pics somewhere. not only mine, but others as well. it it the Dodge 2.2 turbo from the 80's/90's. I owuld have done that swap again but I decided to go the b16 route instead because there are more parts available.

Clever, your solution on the shifter

Saves having to do what the MR2 guys have done, drilling out the casing on the other side and swapping in a MR2 trans shifter rod. Maybe what I'll try with the 6spd I have for my swap.

ok how about some pics of your b16 conversion, that was one of the engines i considered as well but they cost about twice what i paid for the 4age. the late model b16 is rated at around 200hp,true?

B16

never came stock with 200. but tons of go fast parts out there. I am still in the midst of doing the conversion. I have the engine out of the honda, engine out of the X, some of the conversion pieces (new mount bushings, and I didnt get the hydraulic tranny so I had to make a hydraulic to cable conversion, Rom burner and software etc) NExt phase I have to build a "home" for the X at my friends so it doesnt occupy his garage while we are doing the conversion as we are both pretty busy and are only oging to get a few hours here and there do work on it. putting the roof on it this wekend then we tow (harbor frieght tow bar) the car to his house. then the REAL pics will come

I almost did a turbo MR2 conversion, but didnt get the car off of craigslist fast enough.

thanks avusblue
space on the other side of the transmission is limited so this seemed like a better solution. it was really easy to do too. When you pull the shifter rod out you see that the selectors are held on with roll pins. For two of these you simply remove the roll pin, turn 180 degrees and replace the roll pin, the third selector is on a spline. one tooth needs to be ground off the spline on the rod in order to allow the selector to be turn the required 180 deg. ( this will make more sense once you take it apart and see it for yourself) For the other shifter (the one that works off the sideways movement of the gear lever) i shortened and modified the stock bracket to relocate it on the other side . one more problem solved!

My mexican mate Gonzo aka " Dirty Sanchez" scratch built some stainless extractors for the 4age. The pipe size is slightly Bigger than the standard ones , so it should flow better.trying to post pics but nothing works .. the error message is below ....anybody got any ideas?????Webpage error detailsUser Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 8.0; Windows NT 6.0; Trident/4.0; FunWebProducts; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; MDDC; .NET CLR 3.0.30618; .NET CLR 3.5.30729)Timestamp: Wed, 30 Jun 2010 10:06:01 UTCMessage: Invalid characterLine: 1Char: 7Code: 0URI: http://www.xwebforums.org/clientscript/vbulletin_global.js?v=373Message: 'vBulletin' is undefinedLine: 11Char: 1Code: 0URI: http://www.xwebforums.org/clientscript/vbulletin_menu.js?v=373Message: 'vbphrase' is undefinedLine: 423Char: 1Code: 0URI: http://www.xwebforums.org/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=60663&noquote=1Message: Object expectedLine: 527Char: 2Code: 0URI: http://www.xwebforums.org/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=60663&noquote=1Message: Object expectedLine: 530Char: 2Code: 0URI: http://www.xwebforums.org/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=60663&noquote=1Message: 'vbphrase' is undefinedLine: 731Char: 1Code: 0URI: http://www.xwebforums.org/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=60663&noquote=1Message: 'vB_Editor' is undefinedLine: 943Char: 1Code: 0URI: http://www.xwebforums.org/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=60663&noquote=1Message: 'vbphrase' is undefinedLine: 178Char: 3Code: 0URI: http://xwebforums.org/clientscript/ncode_imageresizer.js?v=1.0.1Message: 'vbphrase' is undefinedLine: 178Char: 3Code: 0URI: http://xwebforums.org/clientscript/ncode_imageresizer.js?v=1.0.1Message: 'vbphrase' is undefinedLine: 178Char: 3Code: 0URI: http://xwebforums.org/clientscript/ncode_imageresizer.js?v=1.0.1Message: 'vbphrase' is undefinedLine: 178Char: 3Code: 0URI: http://xwebforums.org/clientscript/ncode_imageresizer.js?v=1.0.1Message: Object expectedLine: 1645Char: 2Code: 0URI: http://www.xwebforums.org/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=60663&noquote=1Message: 'vbphrase' is undefinedLine: 178Char: 3Code: 0URI: http://xwebforums.org/clientscript/ncode_imageresizer.js?v=1.0.1Message: 'vbphrase' is undefinedLine: 178Char: 3Code: 0URI: http://xwebforums.org/clientscript/ncode_imageresizer.js?v=1.0.1Message: 'vbphrase' is undefinedLine: 178Char: 3Code: 0URI: http://xwebforums.org/clientscript/ncode_imageresizer.js?v=1.0.1Message: 'vbphrase' is undefinedLine: 178Char: 3Code: 0URI: http://xwebforums.org/clientscript/ncode_imageresizer.js?v=1.0.1Message: 'vbphrase' is undefinedLine: 178Char: 3Code: 0URI: http://xwebforums.org/clientscript/ncode_imageresizer.js?v=1.0.1Message: 'vbphrase' is undefinedLine: 178Char: 3Code: 0URI: http://xwebforums.org/clientscript/ncode_imageresizer.js?v=1.0.1Message: 'vbphrase' is undefinedLine: 178Char: 3Code: 0URI: http://xwebforums.org/clientscript/ncode_imageresizer.js?v=1.0.1Message: 'vbphrase' is undefinedLine: 178Char: 3Code: 0URI: http://xwebforums.org/clientscript/ncode_imageresizer.js?v=1.0.1

extractors

nice pipes!
was great to catch up with both you and gonzo last saturday, good to have a local doing the same (nearly) conversion makes my job easier as you are testing the waters.
now how much is gonzo going to charge me for a set of pipes for the 4agze?
you guys are powering ahead , great to see your enthusiasm .
time for me to come and see your hard work in the flesh.
i'll give you a call
cheers
pete

thanks pete

yeah it was great to catch up mate and to see your little beast. I am sure gonzo would work out something reasonable for you with another set for yours. give me a call and come around anytime.

Beautiful!

A prototype! How many are you making and how much? I noticed too how little room was left for a shifter mechanism on the firewall side, and you found the cleanest possible solution for that, and now these headers. Congrats again.

Thanks Kent, I can't take any of the credit for the extractors though, Gonzo built them as I watched on and brought the drinks. I am sure he would be interested in selling a few sets ( he likes this sort of job) so I will let you know. How is your project coming along? Have you made a start yet? or still collecting parts. Hope to see some pics of yours soon.regards Gerard.

its in

now that all 4 engine mounts are done i thought i'd put the engine in to see what the suspension hieght, sump height , and extractor clearance was really like. with the car back on all fours it sits surprisingly high ( maybe it will settle) I really thought I may have to upgrade the rear springs, maybe not. The engine position is way forward of the rear axle, more so than the original engine.

edit for some reason the bottom of my pics is being cropped???? not having much luck lately with posting pics.

engineaxle.jpg

sump clearance is 150mm (6 inches)

drive shaft alignment is good

the engine as it now sits.

nice foot!!!!

good one gerard, so how much clearance on the extractors (firewall and between engine and trans.)
you haven't said what your'e doing about driveshafts, hope you make it as simple as everything else you do
cheers

Those bottom motor mounts

look much like the MR2 pieces. Man, it's nice to see these pics. As you've positioned the engine, you'd have to say it's a good thing you chose a 20v, with its distributor mounted on the end of the intake cam, because it doesn't look like there's enough space for the 16v's mounted on the exhaust side of the block. Hm. More to think about.
