'86 X project for sale

When I see Craftsman garage cabinets and stainless steel work bench tops instead of your original kitchen cabinets my eyes start to glaze over.

Back in my first house the garage not only got the old kitchen cabinets and countertops, but also the old kitchen sink. I intended to plumb it up to use as a utility sink but never got around to that part, so it just became a place to gather crap.

Topic drift is common, I bet a math whiz can tell us, on average, how many posts it takes to totally drift away.

More on point, that car is a great C-virus project car and if you make it a Fatrat replica, then everything that needs fixing would be tossed out anyway.

Nice day here in Michigan!
Here are a few more pictures showing a couple flaws with the body as well as some interior shots.
There is a spot behind the passenger rear tire, about the size of a half dollar, that is nearly rusted through. Also, ahead of the passenger rear tire the rocker is pushed in like someone ran over something. The rear trunk floor is the worst rust on the whole car but I'm pretty sure this is common on these cars. If anyone wants to see something specific, I'll be able to get pictures today while I have it out of the garage.

Your public disclosure is commendable. Mike Hynes likes road trips to Virginia, maybe I could pay him $100 to deliver it here.

Honestly, as much as I'd love to, I don't have the time to tackle something like this. With this virus, I have some time to catch up on some other projects and I've come to realize just how much stuff I have that needs attention. My car/firewood hauling trailer is high on the list of items for being gone through. Maybe in a couple weeks I'll have it ready for a road trip when Michigan's "stay at home order" is lifted.

Quick update:
The drivetrain has been pulled from the car and the bottom end of the motor is at the machine shop awaiting evaluation. If anyone is interested making an offer on the roller let me know. In the meantime I'll be cleaning up the motor parts I have for reassembly...

It looks like you plan to referb the drivetrain, that intake looks pretty good. Now you need a car to put it in. Maybe it would be best to start with one that isn't rusted so far as the one you have now? In the pics you posted it seems to have an odd modification, maybe someone cut the frunk out to get access to the steering rack?

Other than that your car looks like a good candidate for an excellent "winter car".
Hmmmm...I may even have some leftover parts that would bolt on...

When the motor is done it will definitely be too nice to put back in the car the way it is. As for now the car minus the drivetrain is for sale. Once the motor is back together with the transmission they will be for sale too.
