How do you pop that switch console out? Can it be done without marring it?

Another wiring question on a 87 X1/9

Almost finished installing the interior in the car. I am now installing the Center console and switches. I have four switches and 4 color coded connectors. Simply which color connector to which switch?

Yellow goes to your rear defrost
Large White is hazard switch
Red interior light switch
Green goes to the power antenna switch or perhaps in your case the fog light.
Small White to rheostat

It is best to push it out from behind.

There are a number of screws to take out the console but if you value the fascia of the switch assembly it is worth taking the time to remove all the screws. Plus you can clean up under there.

How is your central lighting bulb?
