Redid with two nylon lock nuts which took up the blank space between the ends perfectly, no free space left. Belt tension seems good to me. I was worried alignment was off since the edge of the belt showed wear, figured out that was from the little rubber edge trim on the lower plastic timing belt guard had slid down and was being rubbed by the belt, took it off.
