I figured that while I had the motor on the stand I would figure out my alternator bracket for the 1 wire GM powermaster alternator I picked up for this project.

Heres some pictures of the bracket mods needed to fit it.

As you can see I had to file a slight hollow in the alternator to allow for the heim joint to turn to be able to adjust the length of it.

I still need to source a longer high grade bolt for the top heim joint mount to ensure it’s secure.

Do you have the part number for gm alternator?
There is a build in the Wiki which should answer your questions:

Most buy a 12SI
Listed as GM alternator rated at 63 amps for a 350 Chevy Camaro, 1975. AutoZone P/N DL7127M, also listed for a 1985 Chevy Truck, C/20 and Suburban

Others can be used but the critical issue is around the “clocking” of the mounts so they relate to the Fiat mounting space.

Do you have an X with AC or without, this could make a difference in what you will need. I believe Lookforjoe (Hussien) used a GM alternator on his X engine with AC and likely has it documented in his early build threads for that car.

I have used a 12SI (78 amp) in my X for several decades as pictured above with my bracket design. Clocks just fine for the AC use.

Denso makes better, more durable and smaller 80A alternators than Delco and such.
Need to dig up these pictures again..

The "single wire" feature can be done to any modern alternator. Single wire appears to be simple, but has a number of disadvantages.
~Control of the alternator field is not possible, this means shutting off the alternator via ignition switch control is not possible.
~Voltage regulation is at the alternator, not at the load or battery. As power is demanded from the alternator, output voltage of the alternator will vary dependent on the load.

Wiring up an alternator is not complex.

~B+ wire or the big terminal on the alternator goes to the battery.
~D+ or field wire goes to the ignition switch "on" position and battery.
~P or alternator power on wire from the alternator to the ignition switch "on" position and battery.

Keep in mind there is not a problem or real reason to not use the oem Bosch alternator. They work good, reliable, direct fit with no changes to the oem mounting..

The Denso conversion on the 74' happened to move away from the much older Marelli alternator that does not have as much power output and reliable/durable as modern alternators do.

Thanks for the pics, your old thread had lost its images.

I always wanted to try a Denso, but information about them, as in which model, what to tell the parts person I was getting it for (you know the drill), dimensions, and so on were not widely available or I don't know where to find them if they are.

Keep in mind that the GM alternator is not a direct fit; As you can see further up in this thread, there is quite a bit of work needed to make it fit.

According to the underbelly pic Bernice posted the model number is 13558. I’ll confirm that if I have to remove the alternator.
