I pulled the ad and decided to keep the car, at least for now. I was overwhelmed with at least 30 texts from people interested in it. So I convinced my wife that maybe we should fix it up a bit more, and sell it down the road for a higher price. ;^)
So, let’s put the mustang on hold, slow down the pace a bit on my cherokee, and let’s get this car looking better! (Ikon da wanted to do that anyway). Now that it has proven that it is not going to break in half immediately, let’s revisit some of the items that I did not really do the first time. The paint needs re-doing, and since the chrome has to come off, let us start with it.
Drivers side rear bumper. Dull, the guard is peeling and the license light is pitting. My estimates for re-plating the bumpers is over a thousand bucks, and that I cannot do. So…to the
These were sitting on the ground next to the junkyard fiat, and they basically gave them to me. The guards have rust, but are not peeling, and the license lights are in much better shape.
So, let us take it apart, and polish. Guess what…the guard bolt was rusty and spinning. To the vise!
Twist the 4 tabs, and the rubber comes off. There it is! Time to drill. Remember to use oil, always start small with the bit and work your way up.

Hey! Not bad at all with a little 0000 steel wool and chrome polish. Still some pitting if you look close, but very acceptable. Next side!
And sorry all…but it does look like you will still have to deal with my “restoration” for a bit longer anyway.
