Nothing much special about this car other than (1) my daughter insisted that her toy dog be in the photo and (2) the bird poo that they hadn't bothered to remove from the bonnet. Basically a late model (USA version) 1500. The year is specified as 1972 on the specification sheet (obviously wrong) and the power is indicated to be 85 HP (which is also the case for the other 1500 models, most of which are USA models).

Overview

Volandia is a museum situated right next to Malpensa airport (the new Milan airport). It now hosts the Bertone Collection which used to reside in the buildings of the former Bertone Style Center in Turin. Apparently, all 79 cars should have been transferred but as far as I could tell, some were missing (e.g. the Runabout prototype). In any case, I visited on January 2nd 2018 and the exposition doesn't officially open until March.

What follows is a collection of photos from the museum, arranged by car where appropriate (for the more interesting models). I have created separate wiki pages for some of the more special cars from an X1/9 owner perspective (i.e. Superlight, Passo Lungo, Fiat X1/10 and Fiat X1/9 Spider) in order to create a collaboration space for further discussion and information relating to these particular models.

Some of the photos are not as clear as they otherwise could have been as the lighting was poor and I only had my iPhone SE with me at the time (the visit was by chance after a tip off from Henk).

Superlight

Passo Lungo

Fiat X1/10

Fiat X1/9 Spider

Fiat X1/9 4 Speed

The interesting things about this car (besides the fact that it was the only 1300 in the collection) were:

  • 1977 Model with "Special Series" front rubber bumpers
  • Bertone badge but in smaller (Fiat) shape
  • Seats from later 5 Speed car (in blue vinyl)
  • Later style rear vision mirror (mounted through glass in quarter window) but only on driver's side
  • Cromodora CD 58 wheels but with black hubcaps

White 1500

Nothing much special about this car other than (1) my daughter insisted that her toy dog be in the photo and (2) the bird poo that they hadn't bothered to remove from the bonnet. Basically a late model (USA version) 1500. The year is specified as 1972 on the specification sheet (obviously wrong) and the power is indicated to be 85 HP (which is also the case for the other 1500 models, most of which are USA models).
