Now That Many Have Shared What's Their Profession...

I'll go first

I love my two daughters more than anything. I have a great girlfriend who loves 1500 miles away and I need to get up there with her (have a CIO job for me in New England?)

I love History and the way most people have no idea as to what *really* has happened in this country. I'm a liberal-progressive-neo-socialist if that label exists.

I absolutely love the Amiga computer and the Amiga OS..

I love the MInnesota Vikings and bleed purple and gold...

I think Burton Cummings (The Guess Who), Paul Rodgers (Bad Company, Free) and John Fogerty (CCR) are the three best voices in rock...with Robert PLant and Ian Gillan tied for 4th :)

I am the best undiscovered blues guitar player in the world...(not so much)

I like to kayak and need to do it more, and walk in the woods a lot more.

I love long-haired sable Collies.

I think the three most beautiful cars in the world are the Lancia Stratos, the Fiat 850 Sport Spider and the X1/9. I own two...maybe someday all three.

How's that?

Hobbies other then old cars...

Being a dad and a husband... That, plus work pretty much keeps me busy. Otherwise in the past I was into snowboarding, boating, street and dirt bikes, target shooting, and BBQing.

Oh, I'm a huge 49ers fan too, I don't know if that counts as a hobby, but it does take 3 hours out of my week during the fall.

Hobbies I can share with you .... Work I can not.... I collect cars of particular interest or rarity. I like to stick with the small late 60s early 70s italian, German, or British vintage. I really used to like model planes and rockets the type that fly. Have not done it in a while. I own a Pool table and I usually have a few thousand dollars around for that occasional betting player.... I consider myself a professional Drinker of fine German Beer:drink:. and When I am not being a husband/father, I am off teasing the ladies:hypno:

Mt. biking, road biking, target shooting, skiing, snow boarding (getting too old for that) and my X1/9.

Probably my favorite and most consistently practiced hobby is following politics. I enjoy reading and following all sides of politics and the mechanics and statistics of it. I'm a liberal of the Jeffersonian variety (rather than the progressive variety) but tend to understand why others believe what they believe and enjoy reading about it and discussing it. It's a tough hobby to enjoy with other people because most are either partisan hacks or too insecure in their beliefs to discuss them openly.:mad2:

I have a Kimber but I usually shoot Glocks (19and 32). Also shoot various rifles but don't get to do that too much. Lack of hobby funds have put shooting on the back burner recently. lately I've Been trying to get out and do it a couple of times a month with intermittent success. Back in the day I used to shoot once or twice a week.

I know the feeling. I haven't been shooting in 2 years... I even let my range membership expire.:( Wife and Kid consume all except the Fiat.

Hobbies, I've had a few

Currently my wife and I enjoy beekeeping 3 hives, amature astronomy, watergardening and goldfish keeping and last but not least motorcycling. I'm on a Harley my wife rides a Honda. Things I'v let go due to age and arthritis are down hill skiing and long distance backpacking. In 2002 my wife and I hiked 1,200 miles of the Appalachian Trail in four months.

Somewhere in between the X1/9's I've bought, and the Miata, I've got to squeeze in a 12 or 16 foot wide 'mini ramp' in the back yard, because my hobby is Skateboarding... and I'm not too old for it. (46)

Skateboarded my tail off during the 'golden years' of the sport when it exploded in the 70's.... Especially when I lived overseas in a pretty small community of US military brats. None of us teens had a drivers license, no TV to suck up hours and hours... we skateboarded like crazy. Literally lived and breathed skateboarding in those days.

Two years ago my oldest kid started getting a little interest... that was all the push the old man needed. Of course like any 15 year old skateboarder at heart... I've gone stupid and bought like 8+ complete boards in the last 2 years... Even with the injuries, (broken elbow last summer) it's still a total rush ripping around on the stupid piece of wood with wheels under it.

Laugh up the broken arm part if you want, everyone at work sure did. Guess it's ok fine to tear muscles and break bones annually playing softball in your 40's (someone does every single year!), but childish to get hurt on a skateboard. :hmm:

Sports!

When I was younger I was really into water and snow sports. These days I am more into team sports like soccer, softball and flag football. I'd like to get back into golf, but the time demand for playing as well as I used to would be so much greater than the time I have.

It's probably pretty obvious to those that "know" me on here that music is probably my first passion, but I get bored pretty quickly with the same thing all the time so I continually seek out new music of all genres from all over the world via youtube.

Currently, I am part of group tying to locate and notify 1982 classmates of our 30 year reunion.

Other than that, not much going on here.

a man of obviously great taste...

I am listening to "no time" as I type. I agree with one and two but I never "got" the guy from CA with the Lousiana sound. That's still a great list though!

Pinball

Playing and restoring pinball machines.
It’s a bit like cars, half the fun is working on them and the other half is driving/playing them.
They have a nice mix of electrical and mechanical stuff.
Mechanically it’s fun to take them apart, replace worn parts and clean every bit.
This is usually necessary as they have been in bars for most of their lifetime.
When put together again they play like new.
For the cleaning/polishing I use a lot of the same products as on my X1/9, the playfields are for example protected by a coating very similar to the paint of cars.
But like with cars, they take up too much space ;)

Modding my Volvo wagon & taking it to the drag strip once a year

Working on the house & in the yard, & enjoying the plantings.

Used to mountain bike a fair bit, have a Cannondale Super-V back from '96, no reason to replace it.

Kids are grown, so it's just keeping in touch on a regular basis to share in their young-adult angst, bless 'em

I have 13 siblings in total, so there's always family drama

Wife & cats are important & require a fair investment of time & energy :)

the quick list

Snowbaording
Paintball
Small music studio in the basement: drums, keyboards, guitars
Used to own a DJ company aand DJ in clubs, now I just do a few gigs a year for charities and non profits.
Remixing songs
solar heating junkie
Softball coach to my daughters teams
Hockey coach to my youngest daughters team
Playing hockey myself
Red Wings fanatic

That is the short list.
the past year my "hobby" has been preparing to get married Oct 2nd. that has taken up most of my time.
Writing this down makes me realize why my summer project of the b16 X was been moved to a summer/.winter project ;)

Hobbies...

First and foremost... Cars. Primarily sporting types designed in the late '50s, 60s through early '70s (after that, who cares... as government regulation had primary influence on design). Currently have 5 "toys" in the fleet... 3 British, 2 Italian.

Then, in no particular order...

downhill skiing
running
model aircraft building and flying
buying, collecting, restoring vintage audio electronics... yup, vacuum tubes.

Woodworking and duplicate bridge

(Used "Butcher of fine hardwoods and easy bridge hands" as my sig for a while).

Other passions

Interesting question...

I am a tournament pool player. I compete in both BCA (Billiard Congress of America) and APA (American Poolplayers Association) tournaments at the regional and National level. APA ranks players by skill level in both 8 ball and 9 ball. In both categories I have achieved the top ranking (7 in 8 ball and 9 in 9 ball).

I love to read. I tend to pick a topic and read everything I can find on it until I am satiated, then move on to the next. I read both fiction and non fiction. I also write.

I have a passion for racing and, as most of you know, am an avid competitor, car builder, driving instructor and setup engineer.

Also, as some of you know, my wife is a singer and through her found another outlet for my passion with music. I run sound for her at her live performances.

I also love to ride my bicycle. This used to be a daily activity on the Saint Augustine, Florida beach but less so since I moved.
