What did you do to your X1/9 today ?

'T' oil fitting for oil pressure sender and sensor installed. That area is hard to get into. Started on the Lada fuse box swap. New washer bag and pump motor, a cheapo version from ebay, and silicone tubing. This is all just to make it drivable. When it's a daily driver I'll upgrade the cheap parts I've put in...

Put cables and inner wires together for the trunk and engine cover release. I bought the MWB inner wires with the ball ends, but using left over lined bicycle brake housing and ferules, they work fine and saved some $. Cleaned up grounds in the headlight pods. Discovered I had a Dremel flexible extension, it works well in that space.

Any electrical modifications, relays, rewiring, etc.? We noticed last time driving at night how dim the original headlights are - this cures that problem?
No they just plug right in , same plug as you have on original, they are very bright in garage car is not ready for the road yet ,

Cleaned up the ‘75 after a couple of years (and a lot of interruptions) it’s back on the road! Last registration was 1993!

Today cleaning up more grounds and tightened up the spade lugs at the fuse box and at other connections. Just a note - the grounds for the side marker lights need grounded to the body. The screw that they mount on goes into the marker light asembly - no ground - you have to remove paint from the inside of the body around the screw to get a solid ground.

A P.O. also mixed up Bianco and Nero on one tail light assembly, not sure how that can happen. All the colors are labeled right on the plastic.

Most all electrical now works except right turn signals and the four way flasher.
One thing I'm not clear on - on the '75 is there a four way flasher relay or does it use the turn signal flasher relay? I'm seeing conflicting information.

Thanks everyone.

Sorry I can't help with the '75 wiring diagrams but if anyone is interested I do have factory wiring diagrams foe '78 thru '80 if anyone is stuck.

Finished the interior installation of the seat and steering column which completes the interior restoration and correction of all discovered issues. Most likely will end work for the winter, Chicago winters and an unheated garage are not a good mix. Was hoping to replace all coolant hoses before Winter but that will have to wait till spring.

Don’t hate me but finally finished getting the 79 bumpers on, tucking them soon. The cars filthy but just started on the header install.

I attended another CnC over the weekend. I really thought the season ended in October, but the CnCs are scheduled thru December this year. Not sure I will be attending once the snow starts to fly. Thanks to Rei Photography for a couple nice pictures of my 86X.

I usually take the orange 85 to CnCs. When I do take the black 86 people come up and tell me I need to find the guy with the orange X. I had 2 people tell me that at this CnC. Good times. :)

Jim, it's a good thing you didn't met the man with the orange x19. He's a weird guy! 😋

I have one of these Dimplex heaters in my garage. It takes the edge off the STL winter cold, but I wish I would have bought something more powerful. Since you are working with wet stuff, spring sounds good. I like being able to work on the cooling system outside of the garage. It tends to get messy. :(

Worked on the engine bay and engine , plugs , wires , cap and rotor ,water pump , starter relay mod , plates to block holes when desmogging , timing belt tomorrow ,

Buffed out the original paint. Couldn’t save the paint on the frunk so went with matte black to match the roof and engine cover. View attachment 54895
I'll preface by saying I am only making a joke so please don't be offended. ;)

I often refer to the Fiat brown color as "turd brown". So I guess you "polished a turd". That was a saying my boss at the engineering company used to say, on how they kept making modifications to an existing design to remedy problems rather than completely redesign it. :p

Looks good, great job on the polishing. I was tempted to try and save the original paint on my blue X, mostly because I did not want to repaint the whole car. But it was way too far gone from sun damage so I'm prepping for a repaint.

I was waiting for the brown paint jokes to start…

I think Fiat used a couple shades of brown. This is 799 Pastel Brown. The X that sold on BAT recently is a darker shade. The 70’s vibe with the gold is starting to grow on me. It wouldn’t have been my first choice but there was no rust to deal with and the price was right!

Even if I'm not a fan of brown, I like the gold accents on yours. Are they paint or decals? I'm assuming decals because painted ones tend to polish off when buffing the whole surface. I once spent an entire day hand compounding all of the painted pinstripes off of a BMW after buffing the paint had ruined a lot of it.
