scorpion #1147 resurrection thread

Hi Mike, I think you’re just down the hill from me. I believe I met your dad at the Folsom Cars and Coffee. Once we get out of this social distancing, we should meet up.

Mark

yes! also, there's a guy in Rocklin named Silvio who has a scorp. everyone keeps telling me we need to meet up.

wheels and tires came along, can't expect her to drive well on 20+ year old flat spotted tires!

as a dude who loves to find, refinish, and fit wheels... these were a real score. They may not be as correct as a set of cromodoras but... I can make these work.

last set of wheels I did were these for my son's vw. I don't think these will take quite so much work...

so, it turns out the plug in the 3-port master is leaking, so I went ahead and ordered the 3-outlet conversion kit from Monte Hospital. What nice folks!

also, these arrived today... should be installing this weekend!

in the process of replacing all the hardware on the water pump... m6 x 45mm and 55mm in grade 10.9 are not so easy to find! also, the water outlet gasket is NLA, so I had to fab one up. the outlet itself is sitting in evap-o-rust for the night.

and while all this waiting is going on, I pulled the chairs and gave them a good cleaning

now that the outlet is de-rusted... there's lots of little pits in the surfaces that hoses would attach to. I'm not surprised by this because this is where the scaling was the worst. question is, do I flow some lead into these pits to improve sealing or am I wasting my time?

I plan on purging the entire cooling system back to the engine bay and flushing with descaler/rust converter until it comes clean. There's no way I'd hook up the rest of the system to the engine when the water pump I removed looks like this!!!

thanks! I do what I can! what I'm hoping to do while I'm sequestered for this whole covid thing is to find in my photos a pic of my actual car from the 80s.

Many of us are doing like you. I spent more time on my x19 in the last month than in the last 5 years.

If the spitting is only on the surface, this is only estherics, then I wouldn't bother. X19 water pump are also like this.

Hey welcome to the Xweb! Glad you finally came here, most of my glancing at the "other" site is to see your progress.
With respect to that outlet, I'd just smear some JB Weld in the pits and coat it in some epoxy paint after it cures.

it's in! I was really nervous torquing those bolts to nearly 14lbs per spec, I left 'em at 12. I think it'll be fine. It would suck to blow the threads out in the block!
