Love the color, very cool.I'm not too far ahead of you. Have her home now and piecing her together. It is a small joy.
My 77 buzzes from around passenger side pillar also! Been driving me crazy. Maybe you're on to it though.Got weatherstripping today, eyeballed it, looks like it should work, scratched head about corner bumper things, Ricardo's look like good replacements but I'm spending too much money lately, will probably try to splice in the old ones for now. Ordered MTL Redline for the gearbox. Think I found the source of a "buzzing". Targa vent on driver's side is a bit loose, will try to remove and replace to tighten up, add a shim or something, bit of rubber, don't know yet. Another 50 mile commute, as every weekday. I actually prefer my X on the highway to my other vehicles. I had a random thought last winter that an X would make a good fun interesting commuter, here I am. Weird.:headbang:
Looks great ,I have more work before I,am there , nice colour, not sure on colour of mine yet.I'm not too far ahead of you. Have her home now and piecing her together. It is a small joy.
Ron, yours is exactly what these hobby cars are supposed to be. It's a driver that you have (likely) enjoyed mini-restoring. She looks great, with some nice mods but still a stock personalty. I'll be doing a very similar build, with the exception of the wheels (I found some 14" BWA's - 185 55/14's). I hope mine comes out looking as nice as yours. Great job!I posted in the photos section yesterday. I finally have the exterior up to pare. The color sanding and buffing came,
out better than I hoped. And I installed my wheels and 175/HR13"s tires. I had to remove the front spacers, and cut back the,
the front edge in the wheel well plastic. The tires were rubbing a bit. I also replaced the big Squar mirrors that came on the car, with these. The last exterior project is, repainting the engine cover, glass black.
Hi Tony, there aren't many x19's in New Brunswick, you are not going to meet many other owners on the road in the Atlantics! Have fun!Looks great ,I have more work before I,am there , nice colour, not sure on colour of mine yet.
Those cutters are great for all types of hoses. Also good for other stuff; weatherstrip, plastic, etc. Makes a nice clean square cut, and its quick and easy to use.Replaced all the ancient fuel and vapor hoses and mounted my electric pump. Since I’m going to be faced with heater hose replacement too on the X and injection hoses on the 280z decided to spring for a new tool. Looks like it could be used for a few different things!
I got tired of dikes, box cutters or single edge razor blades. This really makes the process easy. Those cutters are great for all types of hoses. Also good for other stuff; weatherstrip, plastic, etc. Makes a nice clean square cut, and its quick and easy to use.
At least some years came with spacers stock. Somewhere around 5 mm is what i remember.Figured out that the previous owner installed wheel spacers. I thought the hubs looked weird but these cars are weird in their entirety...but I guess this was actually not oem. Spacers removed... hopefully that was the source of the wobble.
Thought I was going to replace the rack bushings tonight but after an hour of hammering on the tie rod ball joints, I've determined I'm too tired to deal with it.
I also changed out the shifter bushing near the trans... admittedly I expected a difference but the shifter still feels as if it's connected to the transmission via a block of mozzarella cheese. But really, that's the least of the cars worries at the moment!
Oh wow, I didn't expect that. The spacers are oddly about a centimeter or two larger in diameter than the wheel mounting face on the brake rotors, so I'm not completely sure if they are the originals or aftermarket. The car has "panasport" wheels on it- though I have not been able to verify if they are genuine. At least some years came with spacers stock. Somewhere around 5 mm is what i remember.
I had to do similar adjustments when I switched to 15" wheels with 195/45/15 tires. My 85 only rubbed on the passenger side. I think I started with the spacers removed and ended up putting them back in. Odd I can't remember. Now I am curious and I will have to check. Getting old I guess. My 1976 had spacers, when I installed the new wheel with a different offset.
The front tires would rub the very lower part of the wheel well arch at the front. So I removed the spacers
The tires are a 175/R 13, so I had to cut the black plastic liner at the bottom front edge.
And I also used a rubber mallet to flatten the metal fender lip in the same area.
So now at full lock, there is no more rubbing.
